They say it's what's inside that counts, but at the Tanglewood home of Jennifer Kostohryz, well-designed spaces flow from inside the ranch-style home onto a patio and expansive backyard boasting an unbeatable westward facing view. A large custom-made round table styles the patio. "The table was originally for ourdining room, but we loved the way it looked on our patio,so wedecided to move it," said Kostohryz, who owns Fort Design Studio with Hilary Colia.
An eclectic assortment of vases from different places around town – Pottery Barn, Home Goods, Target and Anthropologie – contain a quirky mix of plants. "Enchanted Florist helped me [with the plants]. Iwanted plantsthatcould withstand the west sun,and I love succulentsand thetexture of thecactus," she says.
The backyard contains several different seating areas, including conversation areas and dining tables. A set of aqua-colored outdoor furniture made by Crosely sits on one end. It looks like a personal purchase because it is. "I love the retro style of thisfurniture because it reminds me ofsomefurniture fromthe camp that I went to as a girl," Kostohryz confirms.
It's the perfect space for the family of four. "Ourfavorite part of ourbackyard is our pooland the back patios," says Kostohryz. They are great forentertainingandhanging out as afamily. We have had several family events recently; the backyard has been a perfect place for us to spread out."
