OK I'm supposed to cover the art, and Lana the movies, but I have to make an exception this time. There is a new Web series shown by geekandsundry on YouTube called Written by a Kid. This project is 4 series long so far and it is fabulous. Written by a Kid premiered July 18th with "Scary Smash" written by 5-year-old Brett Baligad, directed by Daniel Strange, starring Dave Foley, Kate Micucci and Joss Whedon. All stories are original tales told by the 5-10 year olds in the videos
They actually have a young child tell them a story and they produce a video around it while the child is telling it. The effects and how it is produced is different every time. Sometimes there might be live actors and sometimes there's illustrations, or a combination of both.
I remember us telling stories as kids, sometimes even putting on plays of our stories, but I forgot what great imaginations kids have. The “S.Q.U.A.T. Team” in the first video is going to be a cult classic!
The behind the scenes clips are really fun as well. My favorite is the clip about the creation of the costumes for the first Written by a Kid show. That oh so creative costumer drew details on all the clothes, making them look like cartoons!
Written by a Kid is the brainchild of Will Bowles & Josh Flaum, and from the producers of multi-Webby winning The Guild video series by Felicia Day, and use various guest directors. Upcoming directors include: Rhett & Link, Roque Ballesteros, Jon Sims, Mike Diva and Greg Aronowitz featuring such talent as Michael Busch, Aaron Douglas, Cassandra Peterson and Cory Williams.
