The Foundry District will welcome a brand new distillery to the neighborhood when Blackland Distillery opens March 20.
Blackland announced its March opening date in a press release Monday. The distillery will bring four, small-batch spirits to market: a vodka, gin, bourbon and a rye whiskey.
Lawyer-turned-chef-turned-distiller Markus Kypreos founded the company. The Fort Worth native attended the Artisan Craft Distilling Institute, became a certified sommelier through the Court of Master Sommeliers and is a culinary school graduate with a focus in classical French cuisine.
“We built Blackland Distillery based on the concept of ‘remastering,' which is woven into every touch point — ingredients, fermentation, distillation, maturation, blending, flavor profiles, architecture, bottle and package design, cocktail offerings and more,” Kypreos said in the release.
Blackland Distillery will occupy a 6,500-square-foot space, incorporating an upscale cocktail lounge, bar and tasting room featuring 10 to 15 custom handcrafted cocktails, all made with Blackland spirits. The space is described as modern and sophisticated, with an expansive horseshoe-shaped, stone-topped bar, including an outdoor terrace and lounge.
Blackland's distilling method will incorporate a modern, tech-focused approach to the traditional distilling processes. Spirits will be distilled using high-tech hardware and computerized pot and column stills.
All grains will be sourced exclusively from Fort Worth-based TexMalt, which partners with local Texas farms to grow, produce and source high-quality malted grains, according to the release. Expanded distribution to local and regional restaurants, bars and liquor stores will begin this summer.
