Fort Worth's own Timm and Katherine Sasser have come a long way from cooking and teaching in their dining room to now owning their first commercial space. Hurley House is the result of the couple's combined passion for hospitality and love for creating family meals. Selling out their first day on July 26, things seem to be looking good for Fort Worth’s newest small business.
After opening their home for business hours for many years, the couple officially moved into a real brick-and-mortar location at 5512 Bellaire Drive South near Bryant Irvin. The Bellaire location offers take-away meals, baked goods, and special event space. The Hurley House take-away menu changes every week. Dinner typically includes a main course with two to three sides. Menu items include Spaghetti Pie (which sold out twice) oven-ready Chicken Enchiladas, Cumin Scented Black Bean, Cilantro Lime Rice, and Fiesta Salad with Avocado Vinaigrette to name a few. Main dishes come in small (4 servings for $15) or a large (8 servings for $25). The sides come in one size that will feed 4 each.
While at the shop, look through their bakery for options including boxed lunches, breakfast breads, cookies, cupcakes, and pies - think sparkle sandwich cookies, rice krispie treats and lemon coconut cakes. The Sasser's are best known for their cake decorating and catering options - the key to their success over the years.
Starting in September Hurley House will begin to offer hospitality classes, a subject both owners are passionate about. With take-home menus and recipes, these discussion-based classes will give students skills to host events. Classes will be made available to the public or can be scheduled for private events. Hurley House is open Tuesday - Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
