First WestBend brought us Drybar, they promise they will eventually bring us HG Sply Co. (I’ll believe it when I see it) and now they are promising the first Fort Worth location of Ascension. The coffee and wine bar will open a 2,420-square-foot space overlooking the Trinity River and Trinity Trails.
Ascension's flagship location opened in the Dallas Design District in 2012, and the Australian-style coffee shop quickly became popular for small but delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner menus. Items include avocado toast (an Australian classic), a lamb meatball sandwich and truffle mac and cheese.
While the shop is known for roasting its own coffee, the man behind the concept describes the eatery as a “farm-to-table restaurant and wine bar that leads with a coffee focus.” And, I can confirm that is exactly the vibe they accomplish at the Design District digs.
This will be the third location for Ascension and the first for Fort Worth. Ascension, expected to open this fall, is just one of many new tenants announced for WestBend, the mixed-use development located just south of I-30 along the Trinity River in the city's University District. Recently opened tenants include the aforementioned Drybar, Pax & Parker, Tyler's and Woodhouse Day Spa. Trademark Property Co also recently announced that it acquired a 3.5-acre tract contiguous to WestBend, which is currently home to a Hawthorn Suites. The company plans to develop additional mixed-use space on that property including ground floor retail, a signature hotel, and multi-family units.
WestBend is located at 1701 River Run.
