Some new restaurant, retail and office space is in the works for West Vickery Boulevard.
Developer Funky Town Development is planning to rehab an old automotive building at 3968 West Vickery Blvd., turning it into an approximately 5,000-square-foot mixed-use facility. The building design isn't finished yet, but developer Trey Neville said the building will have a “sleek” and “modern” design.
He said he pictures the development to have boutiques and artisan shops. A few tenants are already in talks to lease space. One possible tenant is proposing a sandwich shop, but nothing has been finalized yet, Neville said.
Construction is expected to start in early 2017 and finish later that year, he said.
On Tuesday, the Fort Worth City Council approved a zoning change for the project. The area originally had a form of commercial zoning that prohibited alcohol sales, and the developers requested a more intense form of zoning to allow the sale of alcohol. The case faced opposition from neighbors, however, who expressed concerns about building height, parking and patrons consuming alcohol on the premises. The Zoning Commission then recommended a less intense form of zoning that allowed alcohol sales only in restaurants. The city council approved the Zoning Commission's recommendation.
West Vickery Partners is the owner of the development, with Bart Shaw serving as architect.
