WestBend is getting a little sweeter.
SusieCakes will open in the University District development at 1621 River Run, Suite 151, in the fall, becoming the bakery's third location in Texas (the other two are in Dallas and Plano). The bakery specializes in desserts like frosted layer cakes, crumble-topped fruit pies, filled cupcakes, cookies and other treats. Popular items include the Vanilla Celebration Cake, Southern Red Velvet cake and whoopie pies.
The location will also feature a cake connoisseur who will help customers create custom cakes for events.
Founded by Susan Sarich, SusieCakes first opened in Los Angeles 11 years ago and has several locations in California. According to a press release, Sarich gets her inspiration from her two grandmothers, who would bake treats for her when she was a child growing up in Chicago.
“If you can't spell it, we don't bake with it," Sarich said in a statement. "Just like our grandmothers, we do not use any mixes, artificial preservatives, high-fructose corn syrups or trans-fats in our products. We bake our products from scratch using only the freshest and finest natural ingredients, including European-style butter and premium chocolate.”
