The owners of Taco Heads have a new venture planned for the Near Southside's South Main Village.
Tinie's Mexican Rotisserie and Cocktail Lounge is expected to open January 2018 in the SoMa Development at 125 South Main St. Taco Heads owners Sarah Castillo and Jacob Watson are heading the project, teaming up with architect 97w to build the space.
“Tinie is my mom's nickname,” Castillo said in a news release. “She eats her Mexican food like your typical Mexican mom – breaking apart tortillas for your protein, rice and beans, and veggies – and this is how we learned to eat Mexican food.”
The first floor of the restuarant will be a family-style rotisserie, serving whole or half fire-roasted chicken with sides, tortillas, and salsas. The menu will also include red meat and vegetarian options, tortas, salad, tacos and breakfast. To-go options, catering and event support will be offered as well.
The second floor, dubbed “El Escondite" (Spanish for "the hideaway"), will feature a cocktail lounge and serve craft cocktails, Latin American beers, and 60 different tequilas and mezcal. Heading the design for the space is Glen Keely, owner and operator of Thompson's Bookstore and Poag Mahone's Irish Pub. According to Keely, the space "will transport you to an Oaxacan mezcaleria with a rooftop oasis to escape the concrete jungle."
