This holiday season, find local events that your entire family can enjoy. Take advantage of all of the kid-friendly activities planned in the DFW area and give your children a holiday season they will not soon forget. Here are 15 local winter wonderlands you can explore with your family this year.
12 Days of Christmas at the Dallas Arboretum
The Dallas Arboretum will be displaying the 12 Days of Christmas through different decorated 25-foot Victorian gazebos around the garden. This three-dimensional experience allows visitors to see the carol come to life. The exhibit will be open from Nov. 8 to Jan. 3 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Check the arboretum's website for special date and time events. Tickets are $20 for adults who are not members and $10 for kids 3 - 12 who are not members. Children under 3 get in free.
The Nutcracker at Bass Hall
The Texas Ballet Theatre will be presenting the traditional production of The Nutcracker. This production will entertain the whole family with its mystical story and whimpsical decorations. With flying carpets, snow and talented dancers, this will be one event your family will not forget. Catch The Nutcracker at Bass Hall Dec. 11 - Dec. 27.
Holiday at the Park in Six Flags Over Texas
See Six Flags Over Texas light up like a winter wonderland at this year's Holiday in the Park. Your family will love walking under the sparkling lights and through the glamorous decorations while also enjoying playful kid-friendly activities, fast rides and cheerful shows.
TRE Winter Whistler Express
Climb aboard the TRE Winter Whistler this holiday season and see two train sets transform into a holiday train with special family events. These trains will be traveling between Dallas and Fort Worth 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. on Nov. 29 and will include activities like visits from Santa and music holiday carolers. Winter Whistler Events are also scheduled for Nov. 30, Dec. 7, Dec. 14 and Dec. 21 between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
Christmas Capital of Texas in Grapevine
Celebrate Christmas in Grapevine with the Christmas Capital of Texas! With more than 1,400 Christmas events in 40 days, there is alway something going on in the Christams Capital of Texas. These include a North Pole Express adventure and showings of classic holiday movies at Grapevine's Historic Palace Theatre.
Christmas in the Stockyards
The Stockyards will be celebrating the holiday with Christmas in the Stockyards. The day's activities will include live music from local christmas choirs, holiday face painting, armadillo racing, chicken roping and photos with Santa. There will also be a parade in the Stockyards starting at 4:00 p.m. This free event will be hosted on Dec. 5 and is open to the public.
Holiday Lights Parade in Arlington
For a light parade, check out the Arlington Holiday Lights Parade at 6:00 p.m. on Dec. 5. This event will be held in Downtown near the University District and will end on the steps of City Hall. After the parade, stick around to snag a picture with Santa. Join the thousands of people that will come out and celebrate the holidays together.
Frosty the Snowman at Casa Manana
The whole family will love the Casa Manana's performance of Frosty the Snowman. Based on the classic Christmas character, Frosty will lead your family on a musical adventure that will entertain the whole family. Don't miss your chance to enjoy this classic holiday tradition in a new, musical way between Nov. 27 and Dec. 23.
Lone Star Christmas at the Gaylord Texan
You and your family will love celebrating the holiday at the winter wonderland of Lone Star Christmas at the Gaylord Texan. Come out to see more than 2 million twinkling lights and acres of holiday decorations. Events include visits with Santa, the ICE! event titled Christmas Around the World, an Elf on the Shelf Scavenger Hunt and much more! Get in the spirit and get to the Gaylord.
Texas Christkindl Market
Take your whole family shopping at the Texas Christkinel Market in Arlington. This family-friendly market is one of the largest open-air holiday market in the Southwest. Come enjoy this unique shopping experience as well as some beautiful holiday decorations. There will also be authentic German cuisine, holiday beverages, live entertainment, children's activities and more. The market will be open from Nov. 27 to Dec. 23.
Caterpillar Light Walk at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History
For a free Fort Worth event your kids will love, come out to the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History to see the museum's festive decorations. Not only will lights be brighting up the museum, trees and surrounding space but also there will be a Caterpillar Light Walk your kids will love.
Panther Island Ice
Break the ice with your family at this year's Panther Island Ice. This outdoor skating rink features a real ice platform for you and your family to enjoy from Nov. 20 to Jan. 18. The rink will be open seven days a week, so this could be a great spur of the moment activity for your family to enjoy this holiday season.
