Get ready to start off your summer watching brave divers defy gravity as they jump from the Hell's Gate Cliffs at Possum Kingdom Lake. These world-class athletes jump off the edge of cliffs and perform tricks with amazing body control.
Men and women from around the world come together to compete during the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series. Possum Kingdom Lake is the first stop of the nine global locations for the 2016 series and will host both the men's and women's division. The Texas location is the only stop in the United States for the series.
Texas resident and two-time defending women's champion Rachelle Simpson will be returning to the platform looking for a three-peat. Two other female American competitors, Ginger Huber and Cesilie Carlton, are looking for a win in their home country and the world series title. American hopefuls in the men's division to look out for are David Colturi, Steven LoBue and Andy Jones.
Divers will be jumping off towering cliffs with platforms at heights of 92 feet for men and 66 feet for women.
If you want to see these great athletes jump from great heights, you are going to have to find a boat or some other watercraft to get you to the destination. These seats are floating-room only. The only way to watch the divers at Possum Kingdom Lake is to travel by watercraft such as kayaks, stand up paddleboards, personal watercraft and boats.
If you don't have a boat or are not from the area, you are in luck because there is a full-service boat facility close to the location called Bluffs Creek Marina. Call ahead to reserve your watercraft. Their rental supply is limited.
The series starts on June 3 at Possum Kingdom Lake and concludes in Dubai on October 28, 2016.
