The revamp of South Main Street is officially underway, as retail development SoMa began its series of retail and restaurant openings in January with more set to open throughout the year. From Mexican food to booze to shopping, here’s what to expect.
WED Bridal Boutique
Opened: January 2019
WED Bridal Boutique offers a selection of bridal gowns from a variety of designers. Owner Irene Divincenzo modeled her business on the idea of “inclusivity,” both in her wide range of dress price points — from $1,000–$4,500 — and in her extensive size options, carrying gowns for brides “of every budget” and “of all shapes and sizes.”
Panther City Tattoo
Prospective Opening: February 2019
Owner Joseph Ayala has traveled the world learning about the tattoo industry, and now he is bringing his talents back to Fort Worth with the opening of Panther City Tattoo. Both walk-ins and appointments are accepted with free consultations also provided. Ayala will also bring in guest tattoo artists from around the globe.
Prospective Opening: March 2019
South Barbershop, described as a “micro-shop” due to its petite, 300-square-foot space, lends an intimate, full-service barbershop experience including haircuts, colors, styling, shaves and more in a single-chair, single-stylist environment. The shop features local art and community event advertisements on display to encourage participation in local activity.
Prospective Opening: Mid-March 2019
Morgan Mercantile is a “merchandising apparel company specializing in soft-hand, water-based and discharge screen printing, embroidery and custom products,” as explained by owner Chance Morgan. The physical store will be an extension of Morgan Mercantile’s existing online presence, but it will focus primarily on men’s, women’s and children’s apparel and carry an in-house label, Panther City Provisions. Additionally, the store will offer a collection of leather goods such as wallets, belts and coaster sets.
Tinie’s Mexican Rotisserie

Sarah Castillo, owner of Taco Heads on Montgomery Street, is bringing a new restaurant to life with the opening of Tinie’s Mexican Rotisserie. Based on the family-style concept, Tinie’s will serve authentic Mexican cuisine in a relaxed but sophisticated setting. The cuisine is primarily centered around fire-roasted chicken with sides of tortillas and salsas. As described by Castillo, the restaurant offers three levels of dining: the first-floor restaurant, the upstairs bar with late-night bites in “dark, sexy, candlelit” surroundings and the rooftop patio lounge extension of the bar with views of downtown.
Tarantula Tiki Lounge
Prospective Opening: June 2019
From the owners of the Boiled Owl comes a new drinking experience in Tarantula Tiki Lounge, an intimate tiki bar inspired by the classic tikis of the 1930s with an edgy flair. The menu will consist of time-honored tiki drinks, original beverages, bowls, rums and weekly rotating frozen drinks. According to owner Autumn Brackeen, the idea is “once the door closes, you’re no longer in Fort Worth. You’re in a completely different land of make believe.”
Prospective Opening: Summer 2019
Owner Shawn Howell describes Southside Cellars as a “hybrid beer and wine store.” Based on the growler shop approach, the lounge area will feature a tap wall, antique furniture and small, round-top seating. However, there will also be a robust retail side with a more traditional store atmosphere, creating two unique vibes within a single space.
