Fort Worth now has a place where you can throw a sharp object at something and get away with it.
Flying Axe Factory, a 3,000-square-foot axe-throwing center located at 220 S. Sylvania Ave. across from Martin House Brewing Co., opened softly Feb. 3 and plans to have a grand opening celebration on March 4. Customers can learn how to throw an axe at a target or partake in one of three games — one is like Blackjack, another is similar to Horse, and another is a simple game of “First to 25” (or how many points the party picks).
Owner Ryan Griffin said the facility follows all of the safety measures from the World Axe Throwing League. Participants also work with a private range instructor to teach them how to throw the axe.
“So far we have a 100 percent success rate,” Griffin said. “Everybody's at least gotten [the axe] to stick somewhat at least once.”
There are 12 lanes total with two targets and a dry erase board used for keeping score. Griffin said Flying Axe Factory offers two rates: For parties of four or more, it's $21.99 for two hours, and for groups of one to three, it's $23.99 for one hour. He said he is working on enabling a BYOB policy.
All ages are welcome, but anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
“You don't have to be a big burly lumberjack to come do it,” he said. “It's for everybody. We've had small, petite girls that are 4-foot-10 come in and stick it every time, and we have guys that are 6-foot-5 come in and not stick it but twice. It's literally for everyone of all ages.”
