Construction on Rangers Entertainment District to Start Early

Instead of starting in November as originally planned, construction on the Texas Live! entertainment district at Globe Life Park will begin this week.

The Texas Rangers’ early exit from the playoffs played a role in the decision to move up the construction date, according to Rob Matwick, Texas Rangers executive vice president for business operations. The Rangers finished the season as American League West champions but had their World Series hopes dashed when the Toronto Blue Jays swept the Rangers in the American League Division Series.

“We were obviously hoping that a few more October games would delay this for a little longer," Matwick said. "However, the Rangers had a great season with a second consecutive division title and now the excitement grows as we will begin site work for this long-awaited development in the Arlington Entertainment District. We can't wait to get started.”

The $250 million first phase of the project includes 200,000 square feet of dining and entertainment space and a 300-room hotel.

The Rangers also announced celebrity chef Guy Fieri plans to open a restaurant within the development.
