Inspiration from afar becomes a ground-breaking opportunity for the city, as the largest inclusive playground in Texas is under construction in central Trinity Park.
Frank Kent's Dream Park Fort Worth is an all-inclusive playground that will allow children of all abilities to play side-by-side on slides, swings, climbing walls and more. The City of Fort Worth's Parks department will handle park maintenance while the Dream Park's nonprofit provides support.
While the park already broke ground, Dream Park's groundbreaking ceremony, which was scheduled to take place Tuesday, was postponed due to weather.
The park was made possible through donations from local organizations and businesses, such as Orangetheory Fitness, which donated an orange slide and climbing wall. The goal to raise $3.1 million for the project is currently underway, and the organization has already raised over $2 million to-date, according to dreamparkfw.org.
Dream Park president Rachael Churchill brought this idea back to Fort Worth after experiencing a similar park in a small town in Wisconsin.
“It's going to be a really special addition to Fort Worth and will put Fort Worth on the map for the largest inclusive playground in the state,” Churchill said.
The inclusive playground is set to open in April 2019 and will continue to keep sponsorship opportunities open for residents, organizations and businesses. More information can be found at dreamparkfw.org.
