Lance Armstrong to Make Appearance at the Gran Fondo Hincapie

Lance Armstrong and George Hincapie

The once-applauded and now regularly ridiculed Lance Armstrong will grace the ranch roads of Fort Worth when he saddles up for the Gran Fondo Hincapie on March 30.

The series, whose namesake is ex-Armstrong teammate George Hincapie, is a four-city cycling event that also includes stops in Chattanooga, Tennessee; Boise, Idaho; and Greenville, South Carolina.

Despite being stripped of seven Tour de France titles, and being the subject/villain of an innumerable amount of documentaries and feature films, Armstrong remains active in charity work and continues to podcast about major cycling events and sell merchandise through his WEDU community of endurance athletes.

Meanwhile, Hincapie, another cyclist caught up in the sport’s mid-aughts doping scandal(s), has his own line of cycling apparel and has hosted the popular Gran Fondo since 2012.

To ride side-by-side with the former wearer of the maillot jaune, you can register for the Gran Fondo here. The event includes rides of 15, 50 and 80 miles. So if your idea of a bike ride is a simple weekend cruise around the Trinity, you won’t feel like you have to keep up with former Tour de France riders.
