The historic Petroleum Building in downtown Fort Worth is in new hands.
Sundance Square announced Monday it has purchased the 14-story building from XTO Energy at an undisclosed price. The Petroleum Building, located on a full city block at West Sixth Street between Houston and Throckmorton streets, will add 117,000 square feet to Sundance Square, bringing the total to more than 4 million square feet of office, retail and residential leasing in 44 buildings. Additionally, the Petroleum Building's adjacent parking garage will add 534 parking spaces and additional retail space. Sundance Square has not yet announced what the exact use of the building will be.
“The availability of the Petroleum Building presented a great opportunity to bring the landmark building into our portfolio,” Sundance Square CEO Johnny Campbell said in a statement. According to Campbell, XTO Energy will continue occupying the building until at least mid-2018.
The Petroleum Building was designed by Wyatt C. Hedrick for businessman Richard Dulaney and built in 1927. In 2004, XTO Energy restored the structure, and today, the building still retains some Art Deco elements.
