If you are a music fanatic, then TCU has just the festival for you! Stop by Pepsico Recital Hall this weekend to celebrate a new generation of American music at the second annual Festival of American Song hosted by TCU’s School of Music.
This year's guest artist is Jason Robert Brown, a lyricist, conductor, arranger, orchestrator, director, performer and Tony Award-winning composer. He is most well-known for scoring several of the most celebrated contemporary musicals, including “The Last Five Years,” “Songs for a New World,” and “Parade,” for which he won the 1999 Tony Award for Best Score.
The festival will be held this Saturday and Sunday, July 25 and 26, on TCU's campus. To start the festivities on Saturday, Brown will teach a free master class. Later that evening, the School of Music will host a conversation with Brown moderated by alumnus Shields-Collins Bray.
On Sunday TCU vocalists and pianists will perform Brown's works, including the premiere of an original piece commissioned by TCU for this year's festival. Tickets for the Festival of American Song can be purchased at the door or online.
