Record stores are making moves in Fort Worth — some are new to the neighborhood, while others are closing and relocating. Here, an update on what's happening, plus a few more record shops that should help expand your collection.
Record Town
3025 South University Drive (old location)
This record shop is known to be one of the oldest vinyl record stores in Texas, open since 1957. But if you've walked outside the building recently, you might have noticed a large “for lease” sign covering the top of the building. Record Town will be closing, gaining a new owner, and relocating to St. Louis Street in the Near Southside. This store, currently across TCU's campus, will remain open at its original location throughout March, with the new location expected to open in April.
Doc's Records and Vintage
2632 Weisenberger St. (new location)
The vinyl record store on Camp Bowie was known for its funky vibe and collectables; now the store is heading over to The Foundry District. Owner Jenkins Boyd says the opening date keeps getting pushed back, but he hopes to be back in business within two weeks — next weekend being the most ideal. The new location will bring in local vendors to sell clothing and antique mall items.
Off the Record West
715 W. Magnolia Ave.
This newly opened bar-meets-record store celebrated its grand opening on Feb. 10. Off the Record has a sister location in Dallas, but co-owner Joshua Florence says the Fort Worth location will carry its own local vibe. The records are provided by Good Records, a music collection store located in Dallas. The facility is starting off with 1,500 records in its inventory, but owners hope to expand to 4,000 when business begins to move along.
Other Record Shops of Note
Chief Records
140 E. Exchange Ave., Ste. 135
Located in the historic Fort Worth Stockyards, Chief Records carries many genres but is best known for its selection of country music.
Dreamy Life Records
1310 West Allen Ave.
This record label and store provides cassette tapes and vinyl records, both old and new. But what sets Dreamy Life Records apart is its professional recording studio located in-store.
Panther City Vinyl
1506 W. Magnolia Ave.
This small store opened in 2017 and offers a variety of vinyl. If you are interested in letting go of some of your old records, this store will take them out of your hands in exchange for cash.
Born Late Records and Tattoos
2920 Race St.
Yeah, this place carries vinyl — but it also sells furniture and doubles as a tattoo parlor.
