A Guinness World Record holder is visiting the Fort Worth Stockyards – and he's on sale.
Bluegrass, a nine-year-old longhorn that holds the Guinness World Record for largest horn spread, arrived at the Stockyards on Wednesday. Last October, Bluegrass measured at 119.5 inches. He will be measured again before his sale Friday evening at the Longhorn Auction.
The Longhorn Auction will take place Friday and Saturday at the auction arena adjacent to the Livestock Exchange Building at 131 East Exchange Ave. The event is being called the “We're Coming Home” auction, returning after a hiatus that has lasted almost two decades.
The auction will feature 100 longhorns and, according to a news release, will be the first auction to have four horned animals with horns spanning more than 90 inches at a single event.
The auction starts Friday with an all-day cattle viewing, followed by a Coming Home Gala at 4:30 p.m., which will feature live entertainment, hors d'oeuvres and cocktails. The auction begins at 6:30 p.m., and the event continues Saturday with a cattle viewing starting at 8 a.m. and auction at 10:30 a.m.
Bidders are not required to be present but can stream the auction online via Superior Livestock or Superior Click-to-Bid.
