How Essential Oils Have Changed My Life...

Although this blog was posted back in October 2014, I usually host an Introduction to Essential Oils Event at least once every month, but have not scheduled a date for April 2015 yet. Plus, I have a current oil promotion through the month of April AND a special contest. All details at the bottom of this post.

Several years ago I was taking a few medications to help combat postpartum depression, ADD and OCD.  I tried desperately to get off of them, only to realize I was dependent.  I had such severe side effects from the antidepressant that it was actually causing depression, lack of motivation, brain fog and memory loss.  I cried every day and my life was just hard for no reason at all.  Every time I’d try and go a few days with half a dose, I would fall into an abyss.  My doctor adjusted the prescriptions, but this was only a temporary fix, or a disaster. Ultimately he told me I was still depressed and needed to stay on the medicines (not in those exact words).

I knew I needed to take matters into my own hands so I started researching natural and alternative ways to deal with the situation.  After reading this life-changing article, I was angry with our medical system and the doctors who WAY over prescribe dangerous happy pills.... (IF YOU OR A LOVED ONE ARE TAKING AN ANTIDEPRESSANT, THAT ARTICLE IS A MUST READ)  It was here that I read about Dr. Ann Blake Tracy and purchased her book, Prozac: Panacea or Pandora?, and I also learned about The Road Back Program.  It’s the most widely used outpatient drug withdrawal program in the world, mainly focusing on getting off of antidepressants, antipsychotic, ADHD meds and sleeping pills…although it will help guide you through other prescription drugs as well.

It was also in this article that I first heard about Young Living Essential Oils.  Here's an excerpt:

Dr. Tracy has worked for ten years to develop a safe method for withdrawal from SSRI antidepressants, as well as for rebuilding the bodies and brains of those who have used them.  For over 13 years, she has closely followed the work of Gary Young, and recommends the use of therapeutic-grade essential oils for repairing the damage caused by these drugs.  According to Dr. Tracy, nothing reaches the brain and begins the body's own healing process faster than essential oils; and the many adverse effects of increased serotonin can be dealt with effectively with their use.

The most significant thing essential oils do is to get the pineal gland working again.  The pineal gland metabolizes 50% of the serotonin in the system.  After using these antidepressants, which inhibit the metabolizing of serotonin, you need to get it working again, to clear out the overload.

Therapeutic-grade essential oils that are high in sesquiterpenes — like frankincense, myrrh, sandalwood, lavender and peppermint, and the blends that contain these oils — are especially helpful in this clearing process, because sesquiterpenes have the ability to cross the blood-brain barrier, to oxygenate the brain and clear out plaques and toxins.

All of this newfound information was a game changer for me. I started The Road Back Program in Spring of 2012 and started tapering off my prescriptions. I sent my massage therapist, Wendy Steele, to a Young Living seminar to learn exactly how to perform the Raindrop Technique so that I could start removing the drug residue out of my system and pull my body back to a healthy center point.  Now, I strictly use Young Living oils to handle ALL of my day to day needs.

Essential oils have been my saving grace for several years now, and I want to share their amazingness with YOU!  On Tuesday, November 4th, I am hosting a very special event in my home and you are invited.  Callie Shepherd from Oklahoma will be speaking at this Introduction to Essential Oils class.  This one hour presentation will inform you of everything you need to know to kick start your new oily lifestyle.  I will be serving mimosas and breakfast bites at the 9:30am morning presentation and cocktails and nibbles at the 6:30pm evening presentation.  All the details are listed on the image below in the lower right hand corner.  Please RSVP to 817-371-5282 if you plan on attending.

I have many testimonies on how oils have changed my life but the one I cannot live without is the pain reliever PanAway.  I've had migraines for several years, completely food based, usually triggered by wine, but have also been set off by movie theater popcorn and other low-grade food oils and additives.  Even though I would get them occasionally (once a month or less), the ONLY thing that would stop these migraines was a narcotic...and I HATED taking a narcotic after drinking!  A friend told me to put several drops of PanAway essential oil under my tongue and hold it for a couple of minutes.  I thought, this has to be a joke. I have tried everything known to man and nothing worked except for a prescription.  Did you know that my migraine was gone in about 15 minutes.  COMPLETELY GONE with no lingering tension.  Did you know that I have not had to use a narcotic ever since?

Since choosing to have a more natural prescription free lifestyle, another huge game changer for me are the wonderful collections of Young Living oils that help me combat my ADD. Everyday I put these or a combination of these oils on the back of my neck, temples, wrists or bottom of my feet.  I LOVE the way they smell, especially when I'm diffusing them.  Besides the ones listed below, lavender, cedarwood, sandalwood, cardamom, peppermint and frankincense have been great too.

And when I feel like I'm in a slump, these oils are my favorites, but there are several other ones that have work just as well, including jasmine, frankincense, peppermint, ylang ylang, rosemary, lemon and cedarwood. Other great oil blends I like to use are Valor, Live with Passion, Joy, Common Sense, RutaVaLa and The Gift.

Over the last 3 years, I have accumulated a fairly large collection of oils.  I purchase a few each month, so that I always have plenty on hand and exactly what I need to whip up a recipe to help fight anything that comes our way.  Be it the common cold, poison ivy, ear infection, kidney stones, seasonal flu, pain or even lice...I will have the right oils on hand, when I need them.

I hosted an Introduction to Essential Oils class last month and it was very inspiring and a huge success.  Here are a few pictures of how I will entertain you in my home on Tuesday, November 4th.  Not only that, you will also get a sneak peak of our Thanksgiving table which will be photographed and written about mid November.  You can see last year's blog post "Giving Thanks" tablescape HERE!

I served breakfast bites for the morning class, consisting of coffee cake muffins, confetti fruit salad and mini bagels with raw farm fresh cream cheese...along with champagne & mimosas.

For the evening class, I provided several light dinner bites, and of course a variety of hooch including vodka cocktails, white wine, and champagne.

Young Living oils are amazing when it comes to all kinds of ailments and issues. Seriously, there is an oil for everything. This is just a small list:

You won't believe the TWO private messages I received when I first posted this blog last week.  They said I could post them anonymously and I have included them below:

Hi there, Christy, I just read your blog and loved it! You may or may not know, but I am a licensed psychotherapist and addictions counselor. Though I am still licensed, it was a field that I was not happy in. You would NOT BELIEVE the amount of people I've met who have become addicted to benzodiazepines/sedatives as a direct result of tapering their antidepressants. GOOD FOR YOU for writing this blog. If more people would focus upon holistic methods instead of drugs, the world would be in a much better place! Take care.
- from a personal friend

I had some stress going on at the time and went to the doctor asking for it, in seeing the fancy TV commercials and bought into it hook line and sinker. By the time it was over I also was in an online found class action lawsuit against GSK, and were 3000 other in it. They settled for just over $20,000 each and the attorneys got at least half of each persons settlement, with a gag order to not go to the media. They should have been made to set up clinics to get people off the drug, using a liquid form that is more easily reduced. But no, but we did get the non habit forming commercials off TV, and as well a warning put into the insert, regarding the Paxil withdrawal symptoms, that had been denied as existing.

CYMBALTA LAWSUIT:

Also, after digging a little deeper, I realized there is a class action lawsuit against the manufacturers of CYMBALTA.  This was the exact antidepressant drug I was on that I couldn't get off by myself.  I spent thousand of dollars custom compounding this drug and on the supplements I had to take to balance my system (so I wouldn't have any negative withdrawal side effects) while I was doing The Road Back Program.
