In case you are wondering why I've been a little slow in the blogging department it's because blogging takes up a lot of my free time. Either I'm running errands, doing carpool, and cleaning out my house for the Ultimate Garage Sale OR I'm blogging. Yes, all of my non-blogging is leading up to the mother load of all tag sales…and it's THIS WEEKEND!
I digress here to explain what life has been like for me since my Valentine's blog. In February, we headed to New Orleans for dad's annual “deb party weekend”. He and what seems like half of Fort Worth are part of the Profits of Persia Krewe. It's a super fun time filled with fab dining, bead throwing, luncheons, cocktail parties...and it's all topped off with a black tie ball at the NOLA Country Club. As I was frolicking around the French Quarter, at home my MAC was experiencing the human equivalent of a midlife crisis. We arrived back in the Fort, and the nightmare started to unfold. My computer froze and I was crapping bricks at the thought of losing FIVE YEARS worth of history including all our family photos.
WARNING: Unacceptable behavior full steam ahead!!!
At this point I had a full-blown epic meltdown right in the middle of our kitchen. I lost my S-H-I-T all over the place right in front of Jason, my mom, and oh yea, the boys‘ homework tutor. It wasn't pretty and I am not proud of it. My rear was about 5 minutes away from a strait jacket and the white van. I mean, I haven't pulled one of those tantrums since high school when my parents banned me from seeing the biggest loser boyfriend I have ever dated in my life. It looked a little something like this combo, but WAY WORSE!
Besides my computer having a conniption fit I have ADD, and I can barely focus and keep on track sometimes. I also have OCD, diagnosed in my twenties. The OCD has lead to me buying and collecting in certain quantities, usually bulk or things on sale. Which in return has caused out of control hoarding. I mean crap was everywhere including the master bedroom, guest bedroom, basement, closets, and four full storage units. Pretty much every nook and cranny has been jammed with clutter, until now. It's a good thing I don't hoard pets and trash, or it might look something like this.
My meltdown was consistent with why I felt like I could never get ahead of the issues in life and frankly I was drowning in what was expected of me daily. My hoarding and unorganization have consumed me and I could no longer see the light. My OCD and ADD were bigger than me and I didn't know where to start or where to let go.
After this fine and memorable moment in life, Jason informed me that the garage sale was off, and I couldn't handle the stress that went along with it, period. I worked him up one side and down the other determined to get him to change his mind. The saying goes, happy wife equals happy life, right? But he wouldn’t budge on this. And so, on that fateful night around the kitchen island, my mom came to my rescue. She carved 5 full days out of her crazy busy life to help me attack this monster head on. She hired several helpers and for the past two weeks we have been making some tough decisions to simplify my life. The great news is after Jason saw the huge strides I made with decluttering, he decided the garage sale was On Like Donkey Kong…Just yesterday, Allways Moving unloaded the last of four storage units and delivered them to the Martin's house, where the sale will take place. Yes, my "garage sale partner-in-crime", Natalie Martin and I are doing this again. Yup, we have done this before...several years ago.
So here we are, powering through the next two days to get my house simplified and host the best sale ever, and today I will be peeling through this last pile in our garage. Furniture, antiques, electronics, crystal, women and mens clothing, childrens clothing, more toys than you can imagine (some that have been played with just a few times), house hold items, entertainment decor and glassware, just to name a few will litter the entire driveway, garage and motor court.
Here's where you can be therapeutic for me and reap the benefits of my unacceptable behavior! Details below for the Ultimate Garage Sale. (make note, this sale is NOT at our house. I know, right? What's up with that?)
Friday April 4th from 8:00am to 2:00pm
Saturday April 5th from 8:00am to 2:00pm
AND at 2:00 o'clock Saturday, EVERYTHING must go at any price.
I'm so sorry, but there will be NO presale or early shopping Thursday due to inclement weather predictions. Set up will take the better half of Thursday evening. I hope to get some rest that night and you should too so you will be ready to rummage through the last 15 years of my life.
