Hard cider company Locust Cider is expected to open in the Near Southside's 710 South Main building in 2018, becoming Fort Worth's first hard cidery and taproom, according to a news release. The company will be the first tenant in the renovated 1940s building, developed by M2G Ventures. According to the release, the taproom will allow customers to "learn, taste-test, socialize, and help brainstorm the next great flavor."
While Locust Cider is based in Washington, its founders, Patrick and Jason Spears, hail from Fort Worth. In 2016, GQ Magazine named Locust Cider as one of the nation's "Best Hard Ciders." The company will continue to source its apples from Washington, as well as serve Texas apple-infused ciders and use locally-sourced ingredients like honey, cherries and vanilla beans.
“Being the only cider in town brings a new element to a growing and thriving craft beverage scene," Spears said. "In some cities like Seattle there are a dozen or more cideries, and hard cider is an everyday mainstream drink. Locust wants to open the world of cider to Fort Worth.”
710 South Main is located on the westside corner of the street, adjacent to Rahr & Sons Brewing. The building has three ground floor spaces and a second floor office available for leasing. M2G Ventures expects construction to begin in the winter.
