Make April Sweet with this Maple Cinnamon Pecan Butter

It’s officially National Pecan Month. As proud Texans, pecans have a special place in our heart. The pecan is the state tree of Texas, and the only nut commercially produced in the Lone Star State. Today, Texas is the third largest pecan growth territory in the U.S. These tasty treats add crunch and deliciousness to meals of all kinds. Plus, they pack important vitamins, minerals, fiber and healthy fats.

Today, we’re sharing a recipe straight from the Savor kitchen. Our Maple Cinnamon Pecan Butter plays up the rich flavor and texture pecans offer. You might call it the perfect spring comfort food. Maple Cinnamon Pecan Butter works well paired with fresh apples or spread across toast. Whip up a batch to give a friend. Or keep it all for yourself — we’re not telling.

Maple Cinnamon Pecan Butter
Total Time: 15 min
Recipe yields 1 cup.

• 8 ounces (about 2 cups) high quality fresh pecans, either whole or in pieces
• Sea salt, to taste
• Dash of ground cinnamon, to taste
• 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
• 1 tablespoon all natural maple syrup (negotiable)

1. Pour the pecans into a large skillet and toast, stirring often, over medium-high heat until fragrant. Be careful – pecans burn easily! This should take about 4-6 minutes.
2. Put the toasted pecans into a food processor or high-speed blender. Let them cool for several minutes. Then, blend the pecans, pausing often to scrape down sides with a spatula and to prevent overheating. The mixture will appear crumbly at first, but blend until smooth.
3. Add sea salt, cinnamon, vanilla and maple syrup. Blend again, taste, and add more salt or cinnamon if needed.
4. Store in an airtight container, or enjoy on the spot.

Pro tip: Toasted pecans make just about any meal that much better. Try adding them to a salad with strawberries, goat cheese and a drizzle of balsamic – or bring them in the car as a healthy snack.
